Eco Warrior trip to Cranford Park
The Eco Warriors were given the opportunity to go on a guided walk around Cranford Park where they learnt about the wildlife and plant life growing in the park.
We were very lucky the weather was perfect, so the Eco Warriors had the chance to have a picnic in the park too.
The Eco Warriors then spoke about their trip to the rest of their class during Earth Day.
Earth Day 2017
To celebrate this year's Earth Day, all children from Reception to Year 6 were presented with the 'Plastic Bottle Challenge'.
The children were to plan, make and present an alternative use of a plastic bottle, being as creative as possible.
The results were AMAZING!
Here are just some of the fantastic pieces the children have created.
Botwell House Catholic School is proud to be an Eco School. We have a team of keen, green Eco-Warriors who sort out recycling on a day to day basis. There are twelve Key Stage 1 Eco Warriors and twenty four Key Stage 2 Eco Warriors. In September, each Key Stage 1 class chose two people who they thought would make great Eco Warriors! The Key Stage 2 Eco Warriors were selected based on the ‘Job descriptions’ they completed and handed in.
We are currently working towards our Bronze ECO badge award. The Eco Warriors made a list of all the things we needed to do and wrote an action plan. From this plan we identified some things that we felt were most important in helping our school to become more environmentally friendly.
Our main priorities for the year are to:
First we made some posters to display around school encouraging children to turn off taps when not using water and to throw the correct rubbish in the recycle bin.
We then created an Eco Warrior display to show all the rest of the children what we are working on.
One of our roles as Eco Warriors is to recycle materials such as paper and save energy where possible. Every day an inspection sheet is completed to show whether or not the correct materials are being recycled in each class and whether electrical energy is being used wisely.
We also take part in a litter pick activity after each play and lunch time to ensure our school is kept clean.
