BOTWELL HOUSE CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL SHOW SUPPORT TO UKRAINE APPEAL

Friday 11th March 2022, the children and staff of Botwell House Catholic Primary School wore the colours of the Ukraine Flag.  It was heartening to see the sea of blue and yellow at the start of the school day.  At 9.00am, the whole school gathered on the junior playground to observe a two-minute silence, remembering all those affected by the war, before singing the hymn, ‘Peace perfect peace.’

Throughout the day, the children have each written their own personal message which has been displayed on our new ‘Bridge of Peace,’

We raised £1277.16 which will be donated to British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal and the donations of items which we have received from the children and Botwell Families will be delivered to The North London Collection Centre in Willesden to assist and support those in need.

We are very proud of the children and the community of how supportive they have been.

There has been a lot of excitement in Reception this week as our newly arrived chicks hatched.  The children have loved watching the rapid growth and today they got to hold them for the first time as part of their learning about how to treat animals with care.  We are not sure who is more excited – the children or the staff!

    Ukraine Appeal

Thank you to everyone who supported the Ukraine appeal today.  It was heartening to see the sea of blue and yellow at the start of the school day.  At 9.00am, the whole school gathered on the junior playground to observe a two-minute silence, remembering all those affected by the war, before singing the hymn, ‘Peace perfect peace.’

Throughout the day, the children have each written their own personal message which has been displayed on our new ‘Bridge of Peace,’ in the link to the Year 4-6 building.

Please continue to pray for both our Ukrainian and Russian families here at Botwell, some of whom have been affected personally by the situation.

  • Book Week

    Published 03/03/22

The children have had an amazing time celebrating Book Week. We started the week with an assembly from Mrs Slater, who talked to the children about being an author. She then visited many of the classes to lead them in a science fiction writing workshop.

This year, each class has been reading the same book, ‘Here we are,’ by Oliver Jeffers. The children have produced some fantastic work based on the book and have decorated their classroom doors using the book as a theme. Our doors have never looked so amazing!

Our staff took part in the Masked Reader which has been posted daily on ClassDojo. The children have loved trying to guess who they are.

Both children and staff have also taken part in the Extreme Reading Challenge. Well done to everyone who took part. There have been some amazing places that everyone found to read. Along with this, there has been a number of activities running throughout the week.

We have had a book cover competition, book Oscar’s competition (where the children have pitched their favourite book, hoping that it will be chosen for their class), a no pens day, buddy reading, library visits and a book swap.

Yesterday, we enjoyed seeing the children in their World Book Day costumes and they had the chance to show their costumes to the rest of the school during a morning parade around the playground.

  • Year 6 visit to Global Academy

    Published 25/02/22

Year 6 had a fantastic time at Global Academy this week! The children took part in an exciting workshop where they worked together to build a real-life TV set! They learnt lots of new things about how TV programmes are broadcasted and what goes on behind the scenes and also produced their own live quiz show!

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and their behaviour was excellent.

This was such an amazing opportunity for our children and who knows, maybe we will see some media superstars in the future!

Here are some photos of what they got up to.

Year 5 enjoyed a visit to a local allotment as part of our new topic. The children were most excited to know that there was a little oasis of greenery in the middle of Hayes! Whilst there, we got to see the structure of an allotment, as well as examining the different vegetables that were being grown. As an added bonus we also got to meet some chickens! Thank you so much to Mrs Borg who kindly allowed the children to visit her allotment and for her excellent guided tour.

  • Year 2 Walk to Lakefarm Park

    Published 22/02/22

Year 2 had a lovely time on their walk to Lake Farm Park on Tuesday. We were looking at our environment and saw a lovely little robin chirping in the trees amongst other birds too. We were a little bit worried about the litter we saw but don't worry we are looking at how we can sort this out. We saw lots of plants that are getting ready to grow! We are looking forward to going back later in the year and seeing what has grown. We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped us.
