As Effective Communicators...

As Mathematicians...

We will focus on the genre of Fantasy writing, with a particular focus on the novel “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” by CS Lewis. We will explore the setting, vocabulary and plot devices used in the text, before analysing the character of Mr Tumnus and producing a character description using higher level descriptive language and fronted adverbials. In our guided reading sessions we will focus on extracts from fantasy novels such as The Hobbit and Cogheart, exploring question types of vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarising.

We will focus on the following units:

Money: Pupils will explain and represent whole pounds as a quantity of money, explain and represent whole pounds and pence as a quantity of money, explain how to compare amounts of money, convert quantities of money between pounds and pence, use their knowledge of addition to efficiently add commonly used prices, use their knowledge of subtraction to calculate the change due when paying whole pounds or notes, use and explain the most efficient strategies when adding quantities of money, use and explain the most efficient strategies when subtracting quantities of money, find the change when purchasing several items, use the most efficient and reliable strategy to find the change when purchasing several items.Negative numbers: Pupils will represent a change story using addition and subtraction symbols, interpret numbers greater than and less than zero in different contexts, read and write negative numbers, explain how the value of a number relates to its position from zero, identify and place negative numbers on a number line, interpret sets of negative and positive numbers in a range of contexts, use their knowledge of positive and negative numbers to calculate intervals, explain how negative numbers are used on a coordinate grid, use their knowledge of positive and negative numbers to interpret graphs. Multiplication and division: Pupils multiply a twodigit and three-digit number by a single-digit number using partitioning, representations and short and expanded multiplication (with and without grouping), divide a two-digit and three-digit number by a single-digit number using partitioning, representations and short division (with and without remainders and exchanging), use estimation to support accurate calculation

As Historians...

We will focus on computer systems and how they are used in the outside world. We will explore inputs and outputs and begin thinking how systems are designed for a specific purpose. We will also begin looking at coding and how Python coding is used to give instructions.

As Members of a Catholic Community…..

As Active Citizens...

Will be focusing on the religion of Judaism and it’s teachings and beliefs, specifically around the special time of year of Passover. We will also explore the belief of Christ the King and how we can be good followers of Christ. As Geographers...

As Scientists...

As Designers with a Purpose...

We will explore biomes around the world and how their location impacts their climate and physical features. We will focus specifically on tundras and deserts, producing detailed fact files and comparisons of the biomes in relation to other areas of the world, e.g. The UK. We will also explore how animals are suited to biomes and how their physical makeup is beneficial to the environment in which they live.

We will explore properties and changes of materials. This will be introduced through a States of Matter workshop whereby the children will experience how dry ice can change it’s properties and the properties of other substances. We will then explore how other substances can be classed as soluble and insoluble and what affects can be placed upon their to change their state of matter.

We will research board games, focusing on their aesthetics, design, layout and purpose. Our focus is to design, create and evaluate our own board games which will be linked to our key text of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” by CS Lewis. We will used cardboard and various design and technology tools to create an aesthetically pleasing board game which incorporates rules and challenges for the players.
