Burps, Bottoms & Boils

As Effective Communicators...

As Mathematicians...

We will read whole books and extracts from texts written for a variety of purposes. For example, this term we will be reading ‘One Plastic Bag’. We will focus on developing comprehension skills whilst identifying language and techniques used by authors. We will write own texts across a variety of fiction and non-fiction genres with examples being instructional writing and persuasive adverts. This is in addition to developing technical skills in grammar, vocabulary and presentation both orally and in written form.

We will use the school calculation policy to cover the statutory areas of: Number and Place Value, Addition and Subtraction and Geometry: specifically, perimeter of a 2D shape. We will review our knowledge of column addition and subtraction and progress to using 4 digit numbers. We will focus on recognising and understanding the place value of numbers up to 4 digits. Finally, we will understand how to calculate the perimeter of regular and irregular polygons.

We will continue to apply our knowledge and understanding of networks and we consider how these might be kept secure. This is in addition to exploring the World Wide Web as we learn about ownership and access to content. We will begin to create programs by planning, modifying and testing commands to form shapes and patterns.

We will be asking our own scientific questions and making decisions about appropriate enquiry methods to find the ‘answer.’

This term we will cover elements from: Animals including Humans. We will be looking at organs in the digestive system and understanding how those organs come together to aid digestion in the body. We will understand the importance of food chains and be able to identify consumers and producers confidently.

This will help us to explore the values of well-being, adaptability and uniqueness.

As Artists…

We will use our sketch books to record observations and to review and revisit ideas in an attempt to improve mastery of techniques. In this topic we will be painting the digestive system using our understanding of colour mixing, tints and shades. In addition to this, we will be using recycled materials to recreate a 3D sculpture of the human digestive system.

We will understand and apply the principles of a varied diet as we evaluate and adapt popular recipes. This is in addition to studying food packaging labels to determine healthy snack options. Finally, we will model how the digestive system produces poo using a range of ingredients and materials having evaluated them based on their functional properties.
