As Effective Communicators...

As Mathematicians...

As effective communicators we will read whole books and extracts from texts written for a variety of purposes. For example, this term we will be reading ‘Arthur and The Golden Rope.’ We will focus on developing comprehension skills whilst identifying language and techniques used by authors. We will write own texts across a variety of fiction and non-fiction genres with examples being newspaper articles and retelling a Norse myth. This is in addition to developing technical skills in grammar, vocabulary and presentation both orally and in written form.

As mathematicians we will use the school calculation policy to cover learning the 3,6,7 and 9 times tables. We will be looking at the patterns between numbers to help us understand and remember the times tables by heart. We will understand that facts from the times tables that we learn can be used to solve multiplication and division problems with different structures. We will then make the link that products in the six times table are double the products in the three times table. We will use our times table knowledge to solve word problems.

As Members of the Digital Age...

Traders and Raiders

Pin på School Anglo Saxons

As Historians...

We will create programs by planning, modifying and testing commands to form shapes and patterns We will then begin to study how data is collected over time as we look at data points, data sets and logging intervals.

As Historians we will learn and plot on a timeline significant dates about events within a historical period. We will find out about Saxon weaponry and how it was used during battle. We will then focus on the significance and impact of power struggles on Britain.

As Members of a Catholic Community…..

As Active Citizens...

Children are introduced to the epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord. Following this, we study the topic, ‘Community,’ in which we learn how the Christian community formed the Church. We also consider the roles of the parish in serving the community along with the celebration of the Eucharist during Mass. We then study the topic of, ‘Giving and Receiving,’ in which we explore the Communion Rite further.

As Geographers...

As Designers with a Purpose...

As geographers we will understand how the Saxons invaded Britain by boat and be able to plot geographical key features (Saxon shore forts) on a map of Britain during that time period. We will also be able to know some of the significant rivers in Britain at that time. Finally we will identify the vulnerable places in Britain at the time of the Saxon invasion and explain those weaknesses.

We will be exploring traditional jewellery and weapon making whilst creating 3D models of Saxon homes and villages. Following this, having learnt about the runic alphabet, we will have a go at making authentic rune stones out of clay.

As Musicians...

As Linguists...

We will be focusing Contributions to modern music history:

ABBA (melody, texture, song writing)

We will be developing language relating to the weather. Everyday France and how French people greet others. Learn about ‘Les geants’ in the north of France.

As Artists...

As Sporting Heroes...

We will use our sketch books to record observations and to review and revisit ideas in an attempt to improve mastery of techniques. In this topic we will explore patterns and print making whilst sketching Saxon and Viking artefacts inspired by collections at the British Museum.

We will be developing our Small Ball Skills/Net/Wall minor games leading to Tennis. In indoor PE we will be focusing on Gymnastics/Rhythmic Gymnastics
